SCA Fit Dog
SCA Fit Dog Club 2026 virtual walks:
- January-March Running for the Roses (SCA National)
- April-June Spring Schip
- July-September Summer Schips
- October-December Schipber
The Schipperke Club of America is an AKC Fit Dog club. We will conduct four virtual group fitness walks per year (listed above). SCA become a Fit Dog club to facilitate more Schipperkes earning Fit Dog titles. You don’t have to find in-person classes or group walks. SCA members now have a way to earn points throughout the year. It’s another benefit to being a member. This is also a fund-raising project sponsored by the Performance/Companion Events Committee to offset trophy costs. Please pay the nominal $5 (five-dollar) through the SCA Store per dog for each SCA sponsored walk.
A core component of the AKC Fit Dog program is walking with your dog, something most of us do with our dogs every day. Walking is a gentle exercise that can help to improve circulation, muscular strength, improve overall health for both dogs and people, and now walking the dog can put you on the path towards new titles. To earn AKC Fit Dog titles, dogs must be registered with the AKC and at least 6 months old.
When participating, dogs may wear slip collars, buckle collars, martingales, and body harnesses, or head collars. Dogs may not wear training collars such as prong collars, or e-collars. Dogs should be on 4-6 foot leashes made of fabric or leather. Dogs with disabilities are welcome and encouraged to participate, so long as they can safely perform the activities. Handlers with disabilities can use any mobility aids and assistance necessary.
Have a skipping good time and join us for 1-mile Virtual Fun Run (category B) or Virtual Group Walk (category C). All titles require points from at least two categories. You and your dog(s) can walk anywhere and at anytime during each quarter at your own pace. Distance must be at least 1 mile. Keep your dog safe, and if necessary, take breaks during the walk.
You must submit proof of walk such as human wearable such as Fitbit, smart phone (e.g. iPhone, Samsung Galaxy, etc.) or smart watch (e.g. Apple Watch, BodTrack, Spade & Co., etc.) download or screenshot along with completed Fit Dog documentation form (fillable PDF).
Upon receipt of payment, completed form with you/your dog’s info, and proof of walk, I will return the signed document to you. I am an AKC Fit Dog Instructor, CGC Evaluator and have four Schipperkes with Fit Dog Gold Titles (I used the Map My Walk app).
SCA walks can be repeated during the quarter and named with consecutive numbers (e.g., Schip Walk 2, Schip Walk 3 etc.) and can count for either B or C categories. Walks can all be SCA’s walks repeated as many times as you need (at $5 per walk/dog). Also explore AKC 5Ks or your local Parks & Recreation Department for dog friendly walk – most have fun medallions.
There are three levels of AKC Fit Dog titles that dogs can earn (must be done in order):
Bronze – 5 Points
2 walks B & C categories
(or 1 walk + 1 fitness title)
Silver – 10 Points
4 walks B & C categories
(or 2 walks + 1 fitness title)
Gold – 20 Points

+ fitness title (or 2 walks + 2
second or 1 advanced level title)
Total: 10 walks & one fitness title for gold. If you only have one fitness title, then save it for gold.
