The breeder will be able to provide the buyer with a price for a puppy. This price should not change while the buyer is waiting for a puppy. Buyer beware if a breeder suddenly changes the price. A required deposit may be expected, but the deposit price should be reasonable. A completely non-refundable deposit is NOT appropriate. A deposit should be refundable if a breeder does not have a puppy within a reasonable timeframe. That timeframe should be mutually agreed upon and written within the contract or the deposit receipt. A deposit may not be refundable if the breeder has a litter on the ground and has reserved one for a buyer, and then the buyer backs out. It may be transferrable towards a future litter. Make sure you are clear on the deposit terms and price!
