SCA Board Notice

Plan and Prepare

If an evacuation is ordered, know your local hurricane evacuation route and have a plan for where you can stay with your pets. The plan should include a designated safe meeting place and out of town emergency contacts.

The safest place for your pets is with you, but not all shelters accommodate pets. Plan ahead! If you are in need of shelter, please refer to this helpful website https://www.bringfido.com for pet-friendly emergency sheltering by state. The plan should include a designated safe meeting place and out of town emergency contacts.

Emergency Supplies

Be sure to stock essential supplies in case you lose power and water for several days or you are not able to leave due to flooding or impassable roadways.

  • Important documents
  • Medications
  • Personal identification
  • Flashlight and batteries
  • 3 days of fresh water for you and your pet
  • Cash
  • First aid supplies
  • Pet Supplies: crate, food, microchip information, vet records and a current color photograph of you and your pet
  • Fully charged cell phone

Evacuation Information

Do NOT leave your pet at home alone. The safest place for your pet to be is with you! Most evacuations last only a few days, but sometimes you may not be able to return to your home quickly because of fallen power lines and other hazards.

Your pet should wear a collar with its rabies tag and identification collar tag at all times and have a sturdy crate or carrier for emergency transport. Are you registered with AKC Reunite – Update your information if you must relocate https://www.akcreunite.org.
